Have you ever failed?

No May be not really. But I have…!

When one fails, one tries to get over it and then tries again. But what if you fail again?

He is the one of those who failed and failed and failed but he actually not became a failure, he kept trying until success knocked his door.

He hails from a small city of Uttar Pradesh, his father was a government servant and out of limited resources available to him he decided to become a scientist and enrolled for a zoology course where he joined street theater “Jana Natya Manch”.

Not all of us become what we really decide to become with our education or I must say only few of us has the courage to become the master of our talent rather than master of our degrees. He is one of those rare amongst us.

“As a 19-year-old student of zoology at Delhi’s Hansraj College, I had no desire to be a filmmaker. Till I watched Bicycle Thieves, a 1948 Italian film directed by Vittorio De Sica, at a film festival in Delhi in 1993. After the film got over, I decided to chuck it all and leave bag-and-baggage for Bombay to be a filmmaker.”

Abhinav Kashyap on how one film changed his life

After the realization of what he actually wants to do is writing and direction he never looked back. Success doesn’t come served on plate, you have to plough the seeds, water it, harvest it, refine it, cook it, serve it on table then only you get to eat it. In 1993 he came to Mumbai with Rs. 5000 in his pocket and struggled to get a decent job at Prithvi Theatre. His first play couldn’t get completed because the director died, neither did his first script completed nor the first movie got released. There was a phase when he was blogging and he was blogging about cinema.

One thing he always made sure that he kept doing what he wanted to become even during the worst phase and even when there was no hope!

Today, he is an acclaimed writer, director and producer with his films like Black Friday, Dev.D, Gulaal, Gangs of Wasseypur, Raman Raghav 2.0, Mukkabaaz  and many more. His cinemas speaks because of the strong storyline and they are the ones with great actors without big budgets but as a viewer his best creation for me is his serial “Love Story” which was then aired on SUB TV.
